2008 USAPL Raw Nationals

The inaugural USAPL Raw Nationals were held in St. Louis, MO on July 26-27.  Clarence (Trai) Forshey, III won the Teen-1, 82.5 kg class, with lifts of:

155 (341 lbs) - 127.5 (281 lbs) - 207.5 (457 lbs) = 490 (1080 lbs)

Clarence's bench press, deadlift and total were new state Teen-1 raw records.


2008 Sunflower State Games

The 2008 USAPL Sunflower State Games (SSG) were held in Topeka on July 19. Results of the competition can be found at the "RESULTS" link above.

 Those breaking established state records were: 

Bob Rome - Master-2 - 110 kg class: 165 (363 lbs) - 150 (330 lbs) - 192.5 (424 lbs) = 507.5 (1118 lbs)

Seth Buckman - Teen-3 - 82.5 kg class: 220 (485 lbs) deadlift, and

Krista McGowan - Master-2 - 60 kg class: 72.5 (159 lbs) bench press (single lift)

Congratulations to Adam Wilczak for hitting the qualifying total for the 2009 Men's Nationals 


Master Records

The IPF recently changed the rules concerning Master Records, allowing an M-3 (age 60-69) lifter to hold records in the M-2 (age 50-59) division, and an M-2 lifter to hold records in the M-1 (age 40-49) division, if such record exceeds that in the lower age division.  KS USAPL will follow these rules, and Don Determann is now credited with the M-2 bench press, deadlift and total records in the 90 kg class. 


2008 USAPL Collegiate Nationals

The 2008 USAPL Collegiate Nationals were held in Denver, CO on April 11-13.  Blake Elder placed 2nd in the 100 kg class, with lifts of:

272.5 (600 lbs) - 182.5 (402 lbs) - 270 (595 lbs) = 725 (1598 lbs)

Blake's bench press, deadlift and total were new KS State Junior records


2008 USAPL High School Nationals

The 2008 USAPL High School Nationals were held in Kalamazoo, MI on April 4-6.  Freshman and Sophomores lift in the Junior Varsity division, while Juniors and Seniors compete in the Varsity division.  Kansas lifters who placed were:

Clarence Forshey III - 82.5 kg -  3rd place JV division: 182.5 (402 lbs) - 122.5 (270 lbs) - 200 (440 lbs) = 505 (1113 lbs), and

Jake Barren - 90 kg - 6th place JV division: 157.5 (347 lbs) - 107.5 (236 lbs) - 202.5  (446 lbs) = 467.5 (1030 lbs)

Clarence Forshey III established new KS State Teen-1 records in all three lifts and total.  Jake Barren's deadlift was a new KS State Teen-2 record. 


2008 USAPL KS Heavy Metal Powerlifting Open

The 2008 KS Heavy Metal Open was held in Hoisington on March 8.  Results can be found at the "RESULTS" link above.  A total of 17 new state records were broken.  Those setting new records in each lift and the total were: 

Max Barren - Teen-2 - 67.5 kg class: 175 (385 lbs) - 117.5 (259 lbs) - 207.5 (457 lbs) = 500 (1102 lbs), and

Clarence Forshey - Teen-1 - 82.5 kg class: 170 (374 lbs) - 120 (264 lbs) - 190 (418 lbs) = 480 (1058 lbs)

Other total records broken were:

Lucas Porras - Teen-1 - 60 kg class = 310 (683 lbs), and

Clayton Hubbell - Teen-2 - 90 kg class = 472.5 (1041 lbs)

Lifters setting individual lift records were:

 Alyson Espy - Teen-1 - 44 kg class: 30 (66 lbs) bench press

Lucas Porras - Teen-1 - 60 kg class: 112.5 (248 lbs) squat, and 140 (308 lb) deadlift

Clayton Hubbell - Teen-2 - 90 kg class: 182.5 (402 lbs) squat

Tony Rich - Teen-3 - 110 kg class: 257.5 (567 lbs) squat, and 142.5 (314 lbs) bench press

Jake Cuevas - Jr. Division - SHW class: 267.5 (589 lbs) deadlift.


New State Teen Records

 A group of lifters from Bonner Springs High School competed at the Bluegrass Open in Henderson, KY on Jan. 5.  A total of 16 new state teen records were broken.  Those setting new records in each lift and the total were: 

Alyson Espy - Teen-1 - 44 kg class: 55.0 (121 lbs) - 27.5 (60 lbs) - 60.0 (132 lbs) = 142.5 (314 lbs)

Max Barren - Teen-2 - 67.5 kg class: 167.5 (369 lbs) - 110.0 (242 lbs) - 182.5 (402 lbs) = 460.0 (1014 lbs)

Clarence Forshey - Teen-2 - 82.5 kg class: 147.5 (325 lbs) - 117.5 (259 lbs) - 182.5 (402 lbs) = 447.5 (986 lbs)  

Additionally, Jake Barren established new Teen-2 records in the 90 kg class in the the DL, 192.5 (424 lbs) and the Total, 442.5 (975 lbs),

Lucas Porras set a new DL record in the Teen-1, 60 kg class with 137.5 (303 lbs), and

Anthony Ward set a new DL record in the Teen-2, 75 kg class with 192.5 (424 lbs).
